More than 25 Years of MegaGames

MegaGames was launched in July 1998 – built for a niche that didn’t yet have a home: hardcore gamers. At a time when the internet was still in its infancy, MegaGames became the first site to seriously serve those who wanted more control, deeper technical insight, and more freedom in how they played. With its pioneering archive of game trainers, it helped define what being a “hardcore gamer” truly meant.

25 years later, MegaGames stands as:

  • The pioneering site that kickstarted the game trainer scene
  • One of the largest global archives of game trainers and mods
  • A trusted resource for Gamers
  • A platform that grew with its community – and never forgot its roots

Over the past two decades, MegaGames has become a widely recognized name in the gaming world – not only among gamers, but also across the broader tech and media landscape. Our content has been featured in leading publications and platforms, including San Francisco Chronicle, Engadget, TechCrunch, ABC7 News, Drupal.org, UPROXX, SlashGear, Destructoid, CheatCC and many more. These mentions highlight our longstanding relevance and authority in gaming culture.

Beyond major media outlets, MegaGames has also been referenced in countless other sources – Wikipedia articles, Google Answers, Yahoo, AOL, Dell and Intel, as well as academic websites such as the University of Michigan, UC Santa Barbara, and the University of Toronto.

This broad visibility reflects what MegaGames has always stood for: authentic, community-driven, and technically insightful content for serious gamers.

Our History

MegaGames was founded in 1998 by Harsha Jayasekera – the visionary who brought the right people together, built the original platform, and helped shape one of the first true communities for hardcore gamers. As the father of MegaGames, Harsha recognized early on what passionate players needed: tools, knowledge, and a place to share it all. What began as a hobby quickly grew into a landmark site for PC and console gaming culture.

At the end of 2023, MegaGames entered a new chapter with a change in ownership. Now operated by a new team with a deep passion for gaming, MegaGames remains committed to its legacy: preserving everything that made the platform iconic, while enhancing it both technically and editorially to meet the needs of today’s gamers.

The original core team continues to play an essential role in this transition—bringing their deep domain knowledge, high standards, and longstanding community spirit. Their ongoing involvement ensures that the soul of MegaGames lives on, guiding its development and helping shape its future.

As we move forward, our mission remains unchanged: to honor the roots of MegaGames while evolving into the best possible platform for modern gamers. What has always set MegaGames apart—its dedication to hardcore gaming, its commitment to free access, and its strong community connection—will remain at the heart of everything we do.

At the same time, we’re embracing change where it matters: the site is being technically modernized to ensure faster load times, better security, and greater stability. Our editorial direction is also expanding, with clearer, more relevant, and more regularly updated content. And above all, we’re focused on delivering a more intuitive user experience – making it easier than ever to find what you’re looking for, whether it’s trainers, mods, news, or guides.

MegaGames is entering its next era – stronger, smarter, and more user-focused than ever.
